2007: Tucson, Arizona
In 2007, the WASM Wombats headed by Mark Roberts (Griz) and Tim Philp headed back to America. It was mid April and the location was Tucson, Arizona amongst the desert fields of Cacti and nothingness. The Wombats 2007 campaign consisted of only two teams this year, one female and one male. The practice day on the Friday appeared that it would be another onslaught of the American teams however come competition day the Wombats appeared to be in a little bit more trouble than in recent years. With such a strong competition emerging from the American teams the WASM Wombats 2007 finished in 8th and 4th for the Men's and Women's teams respectively.
The Men's competition proved extremely tight this year with only minuscule margins separating the top few teams. The Wombats men's team secured a very close second place in the Hand Mucking against UMR and were just squeezed out of the Swede Saw (3rd) and Hand Steeling (3rd) for a top finish. The Wombats Women's team however were heavily competitive in their division managing to secure 1st place in Mucking and 2nd place in Hand Steeling.
Although 2007 didn't fair as well as in previous years for the WASM Wombats, 2008 is only just around the corner and the Wombats are looking to bring home the trophies once again.
