-
Some issues to be mindful of when driving to the Goldfields are:
-
Fatigue – Driving long distances can cause
fatigue, one of the most common causes of accidents. STOP
and REST at least every two hours. Most service
stations offer a DRIVER REVIVER coffee free of charge.
-
Headlights – To assist other traffic to see your
vehicle, drive with your headlights on during the day.
-
Animals – Watch out for animals on the
road. The most dangerous times are at night, dusk and dawn.
-
Road Trains – These multi-trailer trucks operate
throughout the Goldfields region and across the Nullabor. Always give them
plenty of room and, if overtaking, allow at least two kilometres of straight
road before attempting to overtake. If you see an oversized road-train
approaching you, be prepared to pull-over and off road. Beware of flying stones,
thick dust, and in wet weather water spray from the road affecting visibility.
