Healthy Club Policy 2007–2008

Smoke Free Policy

Eastern Goldfields Cycle Club recognises that passive smoking is hazardous to health and that non-smokers should be protected from the involuntary inhalation of tobacco smoke.

Accordingly, the following policy devised by Eastern Goldfields Cycle Club applies to all committee members, volunteers and participants of all EGCC activities.

  • Smoking is prohibited at all Eastern Goldfields Cycle Club activities.
  • All functions held by EGCC will be smoke-free and no ashtrays will be placed anywhere in the building.
  • No cigarettes will be sold on the premises.
  • Appropriate non-smoking signs will be displayed.

Sun Smart Policy

The health of the community is of prime concern to us. We will actively seek to promote, encourage and support sun protection at all Eastern Goldfields Cycle Club events.

Where possible EGCC will:

  • Schedule outdoor activities outside the hours of 10.30am to 2.30pm.
  • Make SPF 30+ (or at least SPF 15+) broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen is available for members and supporters wherever possible.
  • Follow Cancer Foundation of WA guidelines for SunSmart clothing when choosing, designing or redesigning uniforms.
  • Encourage members and supporters to wear a hat when participating in our activities.
  • Make maximum use of existing shade at facilities. When shade is not adequate we will seek to provide temporary shade.
  • Review the SunSmart policy regularly.

Alcohol / Medication Policy

The Eastern Goldfields cycle club promotes the responsible adult use of alcohol and discourages the use of medications in respect of injury/recovery that would enable a participant to compete when they would not have otherwise been able.

Where possible EGCC will:

  • Discourages excessive or rapid consumption of alcohol such as happy hours or drinking competitions.
  • Will not served Alcohol to anyone who is intoxicated or under 18 years of age.
  • Provide low-cost/free and plentiful non-alcoholic drinks and water at events.
  • The use of illicit and/or performance-enhancing drugs is not acceptable.
  • Situations that may suggest the administration of medication will be referred to a competent physician/health care professional.

Injury Prevention Policy

The Eastern Goldfields Cycle Club will encourage all members to adopt practices that seek to prevent injury by:

  • Encourage warm-up, stretching and cool-down as an important component of racing and training.
  • Promote the use of suitable clothing and footwear.
  • Ensure safe road conditions, provide first aid equipment and accredited coaches/first aiders or equivalent at all training sessions and events.
  • Ensure and promote adequate public liability for the club and personal accident insurance for all members and participants.

  • All adult members and coaches will set appropriate examples and act as role models for junior members.
  • Encourage all players with a prior or current injury to seek professional advice and be fully rehabilitated before returning to play.

EGCC recognizes the importance of good nutrition for sports performance by:

  • Providing healthy, nourishing refreshments immediately following events.
  • Promoting good nutrition and healthy eating messages.

The club will make information available to club members and families to promote health lifestyles.

Adult club members are expected to set appropriate examples and act as role models for junior club members.
