A Lasting Tribute. . . to the 1945–46 Australian Services XI

The Specifications...

Cricket Bat : Average overall length 33¼″, average blade width 4¼″, average weight 2¼ lbs.. Quantity made : One hundred (100). Handcrafted in Australia using English willow grades 1-3 by Bradbury Bats, Fremantle, Australia.

Bat Cabinet : Length 4′ 1¼″, width 9¾″, depth 4½″. Cabinet made from Pine and Tasmanian Oak. The cabinet features lapped dovetail jointing, a brass-hinged frame to gain access to the bat, recessed base and matte, calligraphy work and original AIF badges. A number of Australian businesses and individuals collaborated in the final construction of the bat cabinet.

Fine Art Print : A one off run printed with the kind permission of the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, Australia. This edition has dimensions 13¾″ x 9½″ using 250 gsm matte board using fade resistant inks. The original painting by Ray Honisett, has been in the War Memorial since 1969.

Book : "Cricket, Not War", signed and numbered by author Ian Woodward.

There are one hundred Australian Services XI Commemorative Bats in the world. This Commemorative Bat should be even more sought after due to its rare distinction of Australian handcraftmanship, high standard of quality and supporting collection of documents, book and print.

Many other companies and individuals contributed to the project and are acknowledged on the foil and embossed Certificate of Authenticity.

The Signatories...

The bats are hand signed by the following sixteen Australians who were members of the 2nd AIF, RAAF and Services (raised in England and Australia) cricket sides during the period 1941–1946. The signatories denoted with an *, are Services XI players who participated in the "Victory Tests", which were played at various cricket grounds in the English summer of 1945.

The Victory Test signatures appear on the face of the bat whilst the remaining 11 Army and Air Force signatures (including 1946 Australian Test Captain and Captain of the 1944 Services Team raised in Australia, Fl. Lt. Bill Brown) are on the reverse.

The fine art prints have been signed and numbered by the Australian artist of the original painting. The prints have been countersigned by six distinguished 455 Squadron (RAAF) aircrew who flew such operations as the one depicted. RAAF XI Cricket Captain and Victory Test player Fl. Lt. Keith Carmody served as a pilot on 455 Squadron.

All signatures are authentic and genuine.

The items shown to the right, including the Certificate Of Authenticity, gloves for handling the bat, Service Details of the Signatories and a letter of support from Mrs.Tess Hassett accompany the Services XI Commemorative Bat.

Team survivors have given freely of their time to sign these bats for charities they wish to support.
